On July 9, I put my inner romantic to the test. Actually, it was more like my inner cynic stopped searching for my inner romantic and took over instead. I auditioned for ABC's reality show "The Bachelor" on July 9 in Royal Oak with Nichelle Curtis. I took none of it seriously and had a wonderful time. We decided to vlog about it because I love my camera, we looked adorable, and it's an interesting subject. See the video below. The line wasn't long when we arrived, but we still waited about an hour and a half. We filled out forms about our personal life with questions about our hobbies, jobs, goals, ambitions, past relationships, and what Hogwarts House we were sorted into (just kidding, but they really should have asked. It's just proper research). After our forms were filled out, we both wanted to steal the pens for memorabilia. Nichelle took hers, and I grabbed one as we left (the guy said we could take them after, I promise we're not thieves).
We wrote our name, number, and hometown on a white board and took pictures. My glasses were falling my nose and I'm sure I looked so awkward. That's okay, though, because I made the photographer laugh. After that, we were ushered up a creepy dark stairway and into a poorly lit bar, where most of the waiting took place. It was lively and fun, especially after we had a few drinks. Any nerves we had were washed away with lemon drops. We talked to people in line and took fun videos. A few people (guys and girls) tried to talk to me about the actual show, and were surprised when I confessed never having watched it. Reality television isn't my favorite, but I understood the appeal of wanting to be on one. When we finally got inside the curtain and sat down with the interviewer, neither of us were nervous. Nichelle was in the booth next to me and I heard her killing all the questions, and being delightful. I've never been good at talking about myself, so I was awkward when she asked about my life goals and my job, but I got through it. I smiled with way too much teeth, though. We got tacos and chocolaty sweets after. All in all, it was a fantastic experience. I'm not expecting a call from ABC or a rose from a bachelor, but I can say 'I auditioned to be on The Bachelor' which is pretty nifty. If you ever have the opportunity to audition, do it! Question: Which season of The Bachelor is your favorite? (spoiler: I've seen none of them.) Read my full review of the auditions on Tri-County Times!
